Saga of Westmarch Wiki

Narrator: The delvers have defeated the Bloody Baron and are looting his crypt.
GM: So.
GM: Mrugnak's a gory, crippled mess.
GM: Everyone is mostly okay.
GM: You have a lot of gold that you've chiselled out of the walls and ~150 lbs of rare art.
GM: What are you doing?
Lenia: Any chance I can fashion a crutch out of one of the cheap pieces of wood furniture?
Berkun: First we need to get Mrugnak in better shape
GM: Yes, you could try.
Mordreona: Can we haul all of this back?
GM: Each attempt to heal Mrugnak imposes as -3 penalty to the roll and that was already tried once.
Lenia: Yeah, we need to get him out of here first.
GM: You're also as -5 to all Healing Spells for being this deep in the tomb.
Lenia: What do I need to make a crutch? It'll let him walk, mostly.
GM: Mrugnak can't be expected to walk more than 40 yards without collapsing.
Mrugnak: (( refresh my memory, I'm conscious, but broken, yes? ))
Lenia: Right.
Berkun: We should first get Mrugnak out.
Berkun: Then cure him.
GM: You're at -9 HP, so you're conscious as long as you don't move.
Berkun: Then we can worry about hauling our loot
Mrugnak: (( right. Wasn't sure if I'd passed out yet or not. ))
Mrugnak: Mrugnak would haul loot, but, yeah.
Mordreona: "Just get him mad and he will chase some one out."
Mrugnak: "Mrugnak not mad. You Mrugnak friends!"
Lenia: "In case you haven't noticed, his leg doesn't work."
GM: After an hour, he can roll to "recover" and act normally out of combat.
Mordreona: "He looks "OK" to me, I have seen old women with worse wounds walk about."
Connell: "I'd like to meet an old woman who's tangled with a... whatever that was. So! We can let him rest a bit, maybe?"
GM: Actually, you probably spent an hour chiseling gold off the walls and sorting through painting. Mrugnak, roll HT.
Mrugnak: HT (13) [3d6.skill(13,0)] => [3,5,3] = 11 vs (13) or less Success! by 2
GM: Mrugnak can move without making HT rolls until he is injured again.
GM: But he's still crippled in the right arm and right leg.
Mrugnak: but still has crippl... yeah.
Lenia: So, that crutch plan.
Mrugnak: Which makes crutches not so hot.
Mrugnak: On account of arm on that side = busted.
Lenia: You can get by with a crutch on the off-side if you're willing to lurch. And someone else can help take the weight.
Berkun: Berkun can help
Berkun: he's actually quite strong
GM: He'll have to move at Move 1, and he can't carry any more load than he already has.
Lenia: That's fine. :D
GM: So what's the plan?
Berkun: Right, all we need is to get him out of the tomb
Mrugnak: I think they're all willing to take any solution that doesn't involve dragging me.
GM: He can pretty much walk out.
Mrugnak: I believe they look frantically around for anything to make a crutch out of, and then Berkun helps Mrugnak lurch out.
Connell: Yes, out of the tomb, then fix the minotaur.
Mordreona: "I'm up for dragging him out by the horns."
whispering to Mrugnak, Bad Temper, self control at +1.
Lenia: "Mrugnak lurches out, accompanied by Berkun. The rest of us pack up all this stuff and haul it out.
Berkun: Exactly.
Mrugnak: [3d6.skill(12,1)] => [3,5,5] = 13 vs (13) or less Success! by 0
** Mrugnak gives Mordreona the stink eye. "Dat not nice." **
GM: Lenia, Mordreona, and Connell are carrying 150 lbs of trade goods, and the baron's heavy armor? Really?
Connell: "I could turn into a bear. That helps sometimes."
Mrugnak: Mrugnak has rope and bags!
Mordreona: Wow, would not mind seeing that. How about an ass?"
Lenia: We might need to make several trips, but I don't think 'get the treasure out of the dungeon' is an impossible task.
Connell: "Dislike the one I already have?"
Mordreona: "Do we not have some packs from the mule that got eaten.?"
Mordreona: "No it's not bad."
** Connell tries turning into a bear. (( Shapeshift: Bear [3d6.skill(15,0)] => [2,3,6] = 11 vs (15) or less Success! by 4 )) **
GM: I'm not doubting your ability to do this. I just want to know the logistics. Mrugnak and Berkun are stumbling out.
GM: Connell just turned into a bear. Who's carrying what?
Mrugnak: (( isn't the mule alive and the horse eaten? ))
Mrugnak: (( I could be wrong. ))
Mordreona: "Nice mate, I'll load you up with some bags and packs if I can."
Mordreona: ((No I think you are correct.))
** Connell goes "Ha! It worked!" except it comes out more like "GROOONK". Then he drags out heavy things or something. **
Lenia: Pile the armor onto Connell, tying it into a carryable bundle with spidersilk cord (which Lenia has); tie the paintings together into a bundle, and Mordreona can probably handle that. Lenia will carry the coinage and then a second trip will probably take care of the woodcraft.
GM: Thank you!
Mordreona: Works for me.
GM: You guys make it outside without incident. Leann waves from the hill but doesn't approach.
whispering to Mordreona, Make a Smuggling check. Tell me how much you succeed by.
GM: Everyone is outside the tomb with the first load of treasure. Then what?
Lenia: Get back to camp with the treasure, make sure that everything is all right, settle Mrugnak down with Berkun, Mordreona, Kaitlen, and Leann on guard, and go back with Connell for the last of the treasure?
Mordreona: unload it at camp and go back for more.
Berkun: "One person and the bear... I mean the faun should go back and bring the rest."
Berkun: "Exactly..."
Mordreona: "I'll go back in."
GM: Going to heal Mrugnak or let him stumble back to camp?
Mrugnak: Perhaps someone stronger than the Nymph should go do the last of the heavy lifting.
Mordreona: "I like the bear."
Berkun: "Is the bear... Does he still think like the Faun did?"
Connell: "Gnark."
** Mordreona rubs Connell behind the ear. **
Berkun: "Or is he a complete bear now?
Lenia: "I'm not sure. I think he's still thinking properly, he hasn't been acting much like a bear."
Mordreona: "Best I go if he goes off and tries to eat me I can out run him."
Lenia: "And Mordreona, I'd rather have you out here - you're a better scout than I am, and those thieves are still out here.
** Connell grins toothily at Mordreona. **
Lenia: Major Healing: [3d6.skill(17,-3)] => [5,1,6] = 12 vs (14) or less Success! by 2 on Mrugnak, spending 7 FP for 24 healing.
Mordreona: "IT is up to you Lenia."
** Mrugnak brightens up, tries to flex his broken arm, and winces a little bit as he fails. **
Mrugnak: "Mrugnak still broken."
Lenia: "We'll fix the rest when we've rested, Mrugnak. Stay here and rest for now."
** Mordreona keeps petting the bear. **
Mordreona: "So you want me to stay here then Lenia?"
** Connell makes a pleased sort of gronk noise. **
Lenia: "Yes, please."
Lenia: "Connell, stop flirting."
GM: Everyone make Naturalist rolls at -2.
Mordreona: "OK, I'll be in the bushes."
Mrugnak: Barbarian! (10) [3d6.skill(10,-2)] => [3,1,1] = 5 vs (8) or less Success! by 3 IQ-based
** Connell sticks a bear-tongue out at Lenia. **
Lenia: Naturalist Default: [3d6.skill(16,-6-2)] => [2,5,6] = 13 vs (8) or less Failure! by 5
Connell: Naturalist [3d6.skill(14,-2)] => [6,1,2] = 9 vs (12) or less Success! by 3
** Mordreona hides in the brush and scouts around. Maybe a 100 yard range. **
** Mrugnak did as well as the druid. HA! **
whispering to Mrugnak, You just heard the quack of a blade duck. Which is weird, because they don't hang out in forests and there aren't any ponds around here.
whispering to Connell, You just heard the quack of a blade duck. Which is weird, because they don't hang out in forests and there aren't any ponds around here.
Mordreona: Naturalist (Earth) (11) [3d6.skill(11,0)] => [2,1,3] = 6 vs (11) or less Success! by 5
whispering to Mordreona, You just heard the quack of a blade duck. Which is weird, because they don't hang out in forests and there aren't any ponds around here.
Mordreona: ((sorry forgot the -2))
** Mrugnak sits up straight, and his big cow ears swivel around like radar dishes. **
Narrator: The delvers are heading back to camp, heavily loading with gear, when Mrugnak stops.
Mordreona: "Anyone hear a duck?"
** Connell blinks, and looks around as well. He chuffs and glares into the bushes. **
Mrugnak: "Dumb duck."
Connell: (( I'm still burdened with loot? ))
Mordreona: "Bandits I would guess."
** Mrugnak frowns, confused. **
Mrugnak: "Duck band it?"
GM: Burdened with loot is good, too.
Lenia: "I think our friends have returned."
** Mordreona drops any loot she has. **
GM: Okay, you're in the valley between three hills. The tomb is immediately south of you.
** Mrugnak looks around for Leanne. **
Mrugnak: (( still loading, one second. ))
GM: Leann is on a hill about 200 yards away.
Mrugnak: "Friend over dere."
Berkun: "Well then it's time to finish the bussines..."
GM: Grey countour lines take an additional yard of movement to cross.
Mordreona: ((so we have yet to make it to camp with the first load of loot yes?))
** Mrugnak points with his chin to the northwest. "Dumb duck over dere." **
Mrugnak: (( stiiiiiilll loading. ))
Mordreona: ((map not yet loaded for me.))
Lenia: ((Same))
GM: Right, this occurs as you're crossing.
Mrugnak: (( done! ))
GM: Sorry, it's a big map.
Lenia: "Please explain what you mean by 'dumb duck'?"
Mrugnak: Taste/Smell (12+4) [3d6.skill(12,+40)] => [1,4,2] = 7 vs (52) or less Success! by 45 (Discriminatory Smell)
Mrugnak: ...
Connell: (( I'm guessing I can't cast spells as a bear? ))
Mrugnak: +4 not +40.
GM: Any spell you know at level 20+, you go right ahead and cast.
Mrugnak: "Dat lost duck. Dumb. Dere no pond dis."
Mrugnak: [45-40+4] => 9
Mordreona: ((may I move, I have dropped all the heavy loot I had on me.))
Lenia: "What bloody duck?"
GM: Yes, sure.
** Mrugnak looks around behind the group, up the hill, taking advantage of having cattle eyes on the sides of his head to peer without falling over. **
** Mrugnak sniffs at the wind. "Dat not duck. Who dat?" **
GM: Connell, Mordreona, you have whispers.
Mrugnak: (( quick afk before things start. ))
GM: Mordreona, make a Vision-5 roll.
Mordreona: ((I do not see it))
Connell: (( I got the duck thing only. ))
Mordreona: Per (13) [3d6.skill(13,-5)] => [5,2,4] = 11 vs (8) or less Failure! by 3
Mordreona: ((same here))
Lenia: ((Still loading map.))
GM: The duck was the whisper, not sure if you got it.
Mordreona: Stealth (17) [3d6.skill(17,0)] => [2,1,2] = 5 vs (17) or less Critical Success! by 12 [B556]
Mrugnak: (( back ))
** Connell tries to shift himself out of being a bear without crushing himself under his loot. This may involve carefully rolling onto his back. **
GM: Not a problem.
Narrator: Mordreona charges a tree and disappears into the underbrush.
GM: A few moments pass. What are people doing?
Berkun: Berkun observes surroundings
Berkun: "You saw the thieves there, yes?"
Berkun: "Or only one of them?"
Lenia: "No, I didn't."
Mrugnak: "Mrugnak smell guy."
Mordreona: Staying put and looking for people sneaking about.
** Connell stands up, brushing grass off himself. "Duck call not native to this region. Like this, see..." he cups his hands and attempts to make an answering call. (( Mimicry: birds. [3d6.skill(12,0)] => [5,6,4] = 15 vs (12) or less Failure! by 3 )) **
Berkun: "Be wary of traps. Pits, ropes, arrows, caltrops..."
GM: What do people have in their hands?
Connell: Nothing.
GM: You have time to get anything out, but I'd like to know.
Mrugnak: A crutch!
Lenia: Staff, empty hand? I assume the coinage still fit in my backpack.
Berkun: Berkun attempts to fake a duck call as well
Mrugnak: Can I stand without the crutch?
Mordreona: A short sword.
GM: Mrugnak: no.
Berkun: [3d6] => [1,5,4] = (10)
Berkun: success by 2
Berkun: "Like this?"
Mrugnak: Then getting something else out seems like a lost cause.
Connell: Or if I can, I'll dig my staff out of the stuff I just dropped.
** Mordreona starts to think they are all in on it. **
Lenia: "Berkun - which bush?"
Narrator: Connell quacks unconvincingly, but Berkun sounds a duck call loud and clear.
GM: Mrugnak: you can kneel and not use the crutch.
Berkun: "No idea... I didn't get to see them..."
Mrugnak: "You good at dat."
GM: Connell: yes, you can grab the staff.
Berkun: Berkun grins as he prepares his bow
Lenia: ((I'm still not seeing the map. I'm going to try disconnecting and reloading.))
Mrugnak: I think I'll do that. Morningstar in offhand, and damn the -4 penalty.
Berkun: "I'll teach you how to make a duck..."
Berkun: "But be careful right now."
GM: Connell, you're down 6 fatigue.
GM: Lenia is down the healing spell.
Berkun: "Someone should be guarding Mrugnak, others check out the bushes... I can keep in the middle, supporting both groups"
Mordreona: (( if I can I take my time and look for people who are stealthing.))
GM: hang on, we're going to start as soon as Kevin gets the map.
GM: Kevin, are you getting the map?
Lenia: ((Map just appeared, yay!))
GM: okay.
Narrator: From the west, a trio of figures appear. Two woman and a very tall man, all dressed in traveling leathers and carrying weapons at the ready.
Explorers: Rachel: "I say! It looks like you've had a bad time. Turn over our treasure or face the consequences!"
** Connell nudges Lenia, "This is where you say, 'your treasure?!'" **
Mordreona: ((may I move using stealth?))
GM: Mordreona: yes.
Mordreona: (( how ever many rounds that takes))
** Mrugnak frowns. "Dey dem guys dat took Mrugnak gold." **
Explorers: Rachel: "That's all you have to say?"
** Mrugnak frowns some more. "Now dey take Mrugnak gold 'gain." **
Berkun: "Petty thieves, you're going to HANG!"
Explorers: Rachel: "Perhaps."
Mordreona: ((let me know when I can move again.))
Berkun: Berkun has little patience, but he doesn't shoot yet, wary of an attack from other sides
Mrugnak: "You guys come here! Mrugnak smash you!"
GM: Mordreona - not again until combat starts. That was 22 yards...
Mordreona: ((K))
Explorers: Miles: "That sounds like defiance. You gave them a chance."
Berkun: Berkun starts aiming at Rachel if he can.
GM: Berkun - roll DX.
** Lenia leans over, keeping her voice low. "Connell, I think these are the group that rifled our bags and cut Mrugnak's purse. I'm going to pretend to negotiate, but get ready for a fight. How's your command over destructive weather?" **
Berkun: [3d6] => [5,2,6] = (13)
Berkun: success by 1
GM: [3d6.skill(14,-1)] => [4,2,5] = 11 vs (13) or less Success! by 2
GM: Okay.
Lenia: ((...wow. That just now went through. I'm sorry, I had some really insane lag.)0
Explorers: Rachel: "Indeed I did. They seem angry. We'll just have to take our gold off their bodies."
** Connell looks up at the sky, and says, "Light showers and some hail, that's about it." **
Narrator: As Berkun pulls his bow taut, the valley explodes into violence!
Lenia: "Hail is good. Never mind the negotiation."

1) YOUR TURN NOW:: [28] Morderona
(on deck: [27] Berkun)

Berkun: too late for negotiation
Mordreona: I move, using stealth.
Mordreona: ##
Berkun: Am I lagging?
Explorers: Hagan: Fires his readied shot as Berkun prepares to shoot [3d6.skill(22, 1+10-5-3-6)] => [5,3,1] = 9 vs (19) or less Success! by 10 vitals shot, DA -6/-3 dodge only
GM: No, I just had to think a bit about what Hagan was doing.
Berkun: okay
Berkun: FP dodge, fall prone
Narrator: An arrow flies out from the woods and towards Berkun's chest.
GM: Fair enough, you're at -3 to Dodge anyway.
Berkun: so with dodge 10 that's how much?
GM: 12, actually.
Berkun: I can't remember how much did prone give me
Berkun: 10 basic, I mean
GM: I know, you end up at 12. -3 Deceptive, +3 Drop, +2 Fatigue is 12.
Berkun: [3d6.skill(12,0)] => [6,6,4] = 16 vs (12) or less Failure! by 4
Berkun: damn it
Lenia: Deflect Missile: [3d6.skill(17,-4-3)] => [5,3,3] = 11 vs (10) or less Failure! by 1
Lenia: I'm not sure if Deceptive affects blocking spells.
Lenia: If it does, I'll probably Luck that.
Lenia: If it doesn't, that's success by 2.
GM: It doesn't, but range penalties would apply, right?
Lenia: Yeah. Range is 6, -2 for staff.
GM: I have it at 7, -2 for the staff. You succeed.
GM: Damnit.
Narrator: The arrow almost catches Berkun in the chest before veering slightly off course.

2) YOUR TURN NOW:: [28] Hagan
(on deck: [27] Berkun)

3) YOUR TURN NOW:: [27] Berkun
(on deck: [26] Connell)

GM: okay. Readying your bow?
Berkun: Kneeling position
Berkun: oops, lagging me now
GM: Never mind, you had an arrow knocked.
GM: okay.

4) YOUR TURN NOW:: [26] Connell
(on deck: [24] Mrugnak)

Berkun: [1d4] => [3] = (3)
** Connell mumbles to Lenia, "Where do you want this hail? It's going to end up all over Mrugnak anyway." **
Lenia: "Between us and them, ideally. Try not to get shot."
** Connell sighs, and holds his quarterstaff ready as he strides towards the enemy. (( Just moving for now. )) **
GM: okay.

5) YOUR TURN NOW:: [24] Mrugnak
(on deck: [24] Lenia)

Mrugnak: Any better?
Mrugnak: (( Guess not. ))

Berkun: hey?
Mrugnak: Awesome. I advance at move 1.
GM: Berkun?
Mrugnak: (( hey. ))

GM: okay.

7) YOUR TURN NOW:: [24] Sneaky
(on deck: [24] Rachel)

Narrator: A beam of white light flares from the hill above the tomb, burning towards Lenia's back.
Explorers: Mage: Sunbolt attack [3d6.skill(14,9-6-3)] => [1,6,2] = 9 vs (14) or less Success! by 5 to the vitals from behind.
Explorers: Damage is [3d6-3] => [5,1,4,-3] = (7) impaling.
GM: Lenia takes 6 damage and a major wound.
Lenia: Er.
Lenia: DR 4 mail shirt?
GM: Right... impaling attack to the vitals?
Lenia: ...Yeah, sorry. Math was off. 7-5 is 2.
Lenia: Dur.
GM: Do you want to fall over and stuff?
Lenia: Checking something.
Lenia: Does the Will roll to avoid being affected by your held missile spell take shock penalties?
GM: It's an IQ roll. So yes.
Lenia: And I suppose it's too late to call for Luck on the attack roll.
GM: No, I'll let you do that.
Lenia: We'll do that, first. I'd really not like to take an extra 2d to my hand.
GM: Sure.
Explorers: Mage: Sunbolt attack [3d6.skill(14,9-6-3)] => [6,5,3] = 14 vs (14) or less Success! by 0 to the vitals from behind.

Mrugnak: (( boo ))
Mrugnak: (( blessing? ))
Lenia: ((Nope.))
Mrugnak: (( Boooooo ))
GM: HT check at -5 already?

Lenia: Lightning: [2d6] => [2,1] = (3)
Lenia: Well, that's a small blessing.
GM: So another 0 points after DR, since your hand is wearing a glove?
GM: Oh, cloth glove. 1 point. okay.
Narrator: Lenia screams in pain and collapses.

8) YOUR TURN NOW:: [24] Rachel
(on deck: [24] Miles)

Mrugnak: (( well. This is going to be messy. ))
Mordreona: (( /me starts thinking about changing sides.))

(on deck: [28] Hagan)

Mordreona: I move.
Mordreona: Can I use a FP and attack too?
GM: Sure can.
Mordreona: I want to keep stealth
GM: Not a problem for this 1 attack.
Mordreona: I do so Telegraph to the neck.
Mordreona: Shortsword (15) [3d6.skill(15,0)] => [1,5,3] = 9 vs (15) or less Success! by 6
GM: You're behind Rachel.
GM: She didn't see you.
Mordreona: Thats who I swing at then
GM: She can't defend.
GM: Roll your sneak strength damage.
Mordreona: Swing damage: [3d6-1] => [2,3,2,-1] = (6)
Mordreona: ((that suxs))
GM: CP for a reroll?
Mordreona: yes
Mordreona: Swing damage: [3d6-1] => [4,4,1,-1] = (8)
GM: Another?
Mordreona: sure 1 more
Mordreona: Swing damage: [3d6-1] => [4,6,1,-1] = (10)
Mordreona: I'll keep that
Mordreona: ##
GM: Ah. She takes 14 damage.
Lenia: DR 3 neck? Impressive.
Explorers: Rachel: HT roll [3d6.skill(11,-5)] => [6,2,2] = 10 vs (6) or less Failure! by 4
Narrator: As the Explorers charge forward, Mordreona runs behind them and cuts Rachel's neck. The con artist drops as blood sprays everywhere.

2) YOUR TURN NOW:: [28] Hagan
(on deck: [27] Berkun)

** Mordreona grins. **
Explorers: Fast-Draw [3d6.skill(17,0)] => [3,2,2] = 7 vs (17) or less Success! by 10 fast-load [3d6.skill(22,-3)] => [6,4,2] = 12 vs (19) or less Success! by 7

Explorers: Shoot Berkun again [3d6.skill(22,-3+4-7-3)] => [6,1,3] = 10 vs (13) or less Success! by 3 in the heart.
Berkun: another FP for dodge and fall prone
GM: Okay.
Berkun: is it deceptive again?
GM: You need at 13 to dodge, it isn't deceptive as he is in a hurry now.
Berkun: [3d6.skill(13,0)] => [1,1,2] = 4 vs (13) or less Critical Success! [B556]
Berkun: Well... that's a relief
GM: I'll refund the fatigue for the critical success.

3) YOUR TURN NOW:: [27] Berkun
(on deck: [26] Connell)

Lenia: Keep in mind that you fire from prone without penalty.
Berkun: can I turn towards Lenia and shoot at the same turn?
whispering to Lenia, You passed out from pain. There's another -5 penalty for a major wound to the vitals.
GM: Yes, yes you can.
Berkun: I want to shoot whoever cast the spell at her
GM: You don't see anyone up there.
Berkun: Can I make an observation check?
GM: Sure, you don't see anyone up there.
GM: Roll it.
Berkun: [3d6.skill(14,0)] => [1,3,5] = 9 vs (14) or less Success! by 5
Berkun: okay, so that's a wasted turn?
Berkun: or can I shoot at one of the running robbers?
GM: You can still shoot at someone else.
Berkun: Sister Zula, vitals
GM: Uhm... who is in the direction you're facing, anyway.
GM: That basically means Hagan.
Berkun: can I see him?
Berkun: oh, I can now... damn good camouflage!
Berkun: yes, I shoot him
GM: Sure, he just fired two arrows at you. He's a sneaky wood elf git, but he's not *that* sneaky.
GM: Range is 22, -7, he has cover (behind a tree) for -4.
GM: You're prone, -3. Net is -14, or -11 with your accuracy bonus.
Berkun: okay... I still do a vitals shot for -2
Berkun: I'll risk it
GM: Great, you need a 6.
Berkun: [3d6] => [6,4,6] = (16)
Berkun: nope
GM: Shot goes wide, very wide.

4) YOUR TURN NOW:: [26] Connell
(on deck: [24] Mrugnak)

** Connell glances back as he hears Lenia cry out, and looks between her and the advancing Explorers. He curses and makes a complicated gesture at the sky before moving to hurry back to Lenia. (( Casting a 6-hex-radius damaging Hail spell, centred at the hex 9 spaces NW from him. Hail: [3d6.skill(15,-1)] => [1,4,2] = 7 vs (14) or less Success! by 7 )) **
Connell: (( In theory that should catch Miles and Zula
GM: What's that do?

GM: Okay, I'll send out the list of loot over email and we'll call it a night.

GM: Oh, Sneaky Mage definitely was the one who stole your money.
GM: Not that he has it on him now or anything.
