Saga of Westmarch Wiki
Saga of Westmarch Wiki

Narrator: The delvers have made it to the top of the buildings that defend the gates to Shrouded Valley. The goblins and ogres of the gate guard are still fighting, while the sentries on the long walls around the Valley are falling back to secondary towers.

From the roof, the delvers have a panaromic view of the Valley. A long road winds down the center of the valley, barely visible a mile or more away. A great stone keep, heavily walled and fortified, squats there. A few sentries on the walls are just beginning to react to the chaos at the Valley gates.

Other roads diverge from the main road, spreading out across the interior slopes of the valley. They run to all manner of small villages, and some disappear through adits into hillside mines. The dim light of cooking fires helps pinpoint these sites, but the eerie darkness blankets the valley.

1) YOUR TURN NOW:: [28] Berkun
(on deck: [28] Ayake)

Berkun: Step and aim at the arrow slit.

2) YOUR TURN NOW:: [28] Ayake
(on deck: [26] Connell)

Ayake: ###
Connell: Do I still have this one in my teeth? I forget.
Ayake: "Richard! Get up there and help Connell and Mrugnak, they looked like they needed it!"
Richard: "OK, clear out the inside"
GM: Ayake can see a half-open set of double doors, connecting the gatehouse to the walkway over the gate. You can hear goblins shouting "where is-um he?!" and "there! get-um him!" from the east building.
GM: Connell, your guy just broke free again, but he's reeling.

3) YOUR TURN NOW:: [26] Connell
(on deck: [24] Mrugnak)

Mrugnak: Flail, torso.

Ogre: "Ha!" damage is [3d6+6] => [6,3,5,6] = (20) crushing.
Mrugnak: DR 14
Mrugnak: 6 crushing!

(on deck: [20] Goblin Sentries)

Richard: how far up to the tower top level?
Richard: or am I there, forget
Mrugnak: You're there.
Mrugnak: You avoided stepping in the goop.
GM: about 3 yards - there's a few steps down from the wall to the building floor.
Richard: up and over, I think I can get that far, then done
GM: Okay.

7) YOUR TURN NOW:: [20] Goblin Sentries
(on deck: [28] Berkun)

Narrator: Fire blossoms on the side of the tower, and a goblin screams in pain and horror.

2) YOUR TURN NOW:: [28] Ayake
(on deck: [26] Connell)

Ayake: Is there a 'downstairs' from here, and if so do I hear anything going on down there?
GM: [3d6.skill(10)] => [6,1,4] = 11 vs (10) or less Failure! by 1
GM: There is a downstairs, but you're not sure which level the goblins are shouting on.
Ayake: I will fast-draw a flash nageteppo, toss it down the stairs, and head upstairs myself.
GM: No problem.
Ayake: Fast-Draw: [3d6.skill(17,+1+1-5)] => [1,4,1] = 6 vs (14) or less Success! by 8
GM: You can make it up onto the roof.
Ayake: I don't actually care where it lands so long as it's 'downstairs'. Should I bother with an attack roll?
GM: No.
GM: You can see Richard, to your left, and Mrugnak and Connell in combat with a pair of ogres.

3) YOUR TURN NOW:: [26] Connell
(on deck: [24] Mrugnak)

Connell: I would like to push the ogre over the edge and down the stairs. What do I need to do to do this?
GM: Roll DX to slam him.
GM: He gets a chance to parry.
Mrugnak: (( or brawling or Sumo Wrestling, technically ))
GM: Right.
Richard: (( I don't think he can see me, isn't he in the tower and I'm on top? ))
Ayake: ((I just got to the top.))
Connell: Brawling! Rawr slam! -2 for Deceptive 1 because why the heck not? [3d6.skill(16,-2)] => [5,5,6] = 16 vs (14) or less Failure! by 2
Richard: (( ah ))
Connell: (( ... 18, not 16. Success!
Mrugnak: (( Hm? ))
Mrugnak: (( oh brawling 18 yay ))

Ogre: Does his stick break? [1d3] => [2] = (2)
Narrator: Connell leaps at the ogre, but he gets shoved off by the club.

4) YOUR TURN NOW:: [24] Mrugnak
(on deck: [24] Ogres)

Mrugnak: Eh.

Connell: [3d6.skill(18,-6)] => [4,2,6] = 12 vs (12) or less Success! by 0
Ogre: Unlucky grunt #6 [3d6.skill(13)] => [2,4,6] = 12 vs (13) or less Success! by 1
[3d6.skill(13)] => [6,1,4] = 11 vs (13) or less Success! by 2

GM: In Wooden Tiger form, Connell permeates wood. So blocking him with a staff might not work so well.
Ayake: Ahahaha.
Richard: (( Evil! ))
Narrator: The ogre tries to use his iron capped staff to ward off Connell, but the druid flows through the center of the wood and slams into the ogre regardless.
Connell: (( That... would definitely be surprising for the ogre.
GM: Connell does [1d6+2] => [2,2] = (4) knockback to the ogres [1d6+3] => [6,3] = (9)
GM: Slamming into the ogre is like hitting a fleshy brick wall. If you were fresh, you might have been able to take him, but tired by spell-casting, you're a bit to weak. You slip on his blood on the stone floor and drop to your belly.

5) YOUR TURN NOW:: [24] Ogres
(on deck: [24] Richard)

Ogre: "Ha!" Grunt 6 smacks Mrugnak twice on the nose as he charges! (well, face, but whatever) [3d6.skill(17,-5+4)] => [3,1,2] = 6 vs (16) or less Critical Success! by 10 [B556]

Ogre: Damage is [3d6+6] => [3,6,1,6] = (16) and [3d6+6] => [3,3,5,6] = (17)
GM: 8 and 9 damage, right?
Mrugnak: Indeed! What's the crit result?
Ayake: No crit.
GM: Quite.
Ayake: Rolled 6 vs. 10.
Mrugnak: Oh, actually was telegraphed.
Mrugnak: [3d6.skill(15,+1)] => [5,2,3] = 10 vs (16) or less Success! by 6
Mrugnak: Not berserk!
Ayake: Two knockdown/stun rolls and a berserk check? >.>
Mrugnak: HT (13) [3d6.skill(13,0+1)] => [5,2,5] = 12 vs (14) or less Success! by 2 Blessed
Mrugnak: HT (13) [3d6.skill(13,0+1)] => [4,1,4] = 9 vs (14) or less Success! by 5 Blessed
Mrugnak: +1 to both of those, forgot fit. But.
Ayake: Also HPT.
GM: Grunt 8 jumps over Connell and moves toward Mrugnak, evading [3d6.skill(12,5)] => [6,4,1] = 11 vs (17) or less Success! by 6
Mrugnak: Also HPT!
GM: Connell, roll DX to stop the Ogre.
Mrugnak: Can Connell Armed Interdiction?
Ayake: I think if he's successfully Evaded, he can't.
Mrugnak: 23
GM: Hmmm... he can attempt it if the Evade fails.
Mrugnak: (damage taken
Ayake: That'd be my ruling on AI.
Connell: DX! [3d6.skill(13,0)] => [1,4,4] = 9 vs (13) or less Success! by 4
GM: He beats you by 2 and jumps over you.
GM: Hey, Mrugnak only has DR12 against crushing attacks.
GM: So he took +2 damage over what we calculated.

6) YOUR TURN NOW:: [24] Richard
(on deck: [20] Goblin Sentries)

Mrugnak: ruu?
Mrugnak: Isn't the smaller number impaling?
Ayake: Mail is 4/2?
Ayake: No? @.@
Mrugnak: 3e brain. Excuse.
GM: No worries, I trust you. =)
Richard: Fast-Draw Arrow [3d6.skill(16,0)] => [6,1,6] = 13 vs (16) or less Success! by 3
Richard: done
Mrugnak: I owe you another berserk check then!
Mrugnak: [3d6.skill(15,+1)] => [4,2,6] = 12 vs (16) or less Success! by 4
GM: Isn't Richard's flight speed 10?
Richard: encumberance
GM: Ah? Okay.

7) YOUR TURN NOW:: [20] Goblin Sentries
(on deck: [28] Berkun)

Goblin: 7 goblins loose at Berkun! [3d6.skill(15,2+2+2-4)] => [1,4,1] = 6 vs (17) or less Critical Success! by 11 [B556]
Berkun: "No!"
Goblin: 1 critical hit [3d6.crit_hit()] => [1,4,3] = 8 Damage penetrating DR does double shock (-8 max) AND if it hits the victim's limb, it's crippled for 16-HT seconds (unless wound is enough to cripple permanently!). [B556], 3 other arrows hit.
Goblin: Damage is [1d6+1] => [2,1] = (3)[1d6+1] => [3,1] = (4)[1d6+1] => [1,1] = (2)[1d6+1] => [5,1] = (6) piercing vs DR3.
Narrator: A hail of arrows envelops Berkun at point blank range, but most of it skews off his armor, with only 1 shallowing penetrating.

1) YOUR TURN NOW:: [28] Berkun
(on deck: [28] Ayake)

Berkun: "Honor and hatred, you vermin!" Redraw his bow!

2) YOUR TURN NOW:: [28] Ayake
(on deck: [26] Connell)

Ayake: Fast Draw a Throwing Spike, Move, and throw it with Power Blow/Penetrating Strike/Burning Strike at Grunt 8's back.
Ayake: Fast-Draw: [3d6.skill(17,+1+1)] => [1,4,4] = 9 vs (19) or less Success! by 10
Ayake: Power Blow: [3d6.skill(13,+1)] => [4,2,3] = 9 vs (14) or less Success! by 5 costing 1 FP
Ayake: Penetrating Strike (AD 5): [3d6.skill(17,+1-4)] => [1,5,3] = 9 vs (14) or less Success! by 5 costing 1 FP

Ayake: I have +1 size, -3 dark, -6 range, -2 move and attack.
Ayake: Can I talk you into 'reduces darkness penalties to 0 because it's burning so bright' as a critsuccess effect?
GM: Agreed.
GM: Certainly.
Ayake: Throwing Art: [3d6.skill(18,+1+1-6-2)] => [3,3,6] = 12 vs (12) or less Success! by 0
Ayake: Suck Divine Perfect Laser, evildoer.
GM: Well, you're clearly behind him, so no dodge.
Ayake: Damage is [5d6+9] => [3,4,2,2,3,9] = (23) tight-beam burning (armor divisor 5).
Ayake: I don't actually remember if TBB gets the injury multiplier like impaling.
Mrugnak: nuh
GM: You burn a hole through his back, all his internal organs, and out the front again.
GM: Hits Mrugnak? [3d6.skill(9)] => [3,1,4] = 8 vs (9) or less Success! by 1
Mrugnak: Owie.
GM: Mrugnak, a burning spike of flaming doom is about to hit you. Want to dodge?
Ayake: He AoAed.
GM: Ooh...
GM: Now I have to look up rules.
Ayake: The Ogre's HP are cover DR.
Ayake: So HP/5.
GM: Right. Mrugnak takes 16 damage, DR/5.
GM: Uhm. So 13 damage?
Mrugnak: You and your stupid lasers.
Ayake: Sorry.
Mrugnak: Although I belive his DR on the front and back also count.
Mrugnak: 1/5th
Mrugnak: but.
Connell: Once again Kevin steps all over my dooming-the-party shtick.
Mrugnak: Stupid lasers. Stupid fat ogres not fat enough.
Ayake: [(30+14+14)/5] => 11
Ayake: 5 damage goes right through Mrugnak, too.
Ayake: There's an ogre on the other side.
GM: [3d6.skill(9)] => [6,6,3] = 15 vs (9) or less Failure! by 6
GM: It misses him and lodges a few feet into the wall.
Mrugnak: goddamit
Ayake: I really didn't expect all of those rolls to work.
GM: I counted the ogre's armor DR on both sides.

3) YOUR TURN NOW:: [26] Connell
(on deck: [24] Mrugnak)

** Connell gets to his feet. **
GM: You can turn around as you do so.
** Connell does so! **
Mrugnak: Consciousness check.
Mrugnak: HT (13) [3d6.skill(13,+1+1)] => [4,6,1] = 11 vs (15) or less Success! by 4 Blessed
Mrugnak: Remembered fit
Mrugnak: Berserk check

4) YOUR TURN NOW:: [24] Mrugnak
(on deck: [24] Ogres)

Mrugnak: "AOOW! Dis yur fault!"
Mrugnak: Committed Rapid Strike, using the +2 to hit for more DA! DA -4/-2!
Mrugnak: Huvudet-krossat-i (Morningstar) [3d6.skill(23,+2-6-4+1)] => [4,5,2] = 11 vs (16) or less Success! by 5 Blessed Conditional: -1 for Size
Mrugnak: Huvudet-krossat-i (Morningstar) [3d6.skill(23,+2-6-4+1)] => [2,2,4] = 8 vs (16) or less Success! by 8 Blessed Conditional: -1 for Size

[3d6.skill(10,3-2)] => [6,5,3] = 14 vs (11) or less Failure! by 3

Mrugnak: YESSS
Mrugnak: [1d20] => [1] = (1)
Mrugnak: wops
Mrugnak: Huvudet-krossat-i (Morningstar) [4d6+3 +1] => [2,4,6,3,3,1] = (19) cr (Armor Div 1/2) Blessed
Ogre: "Ooof-um!" The ogre is rocked back on his feet as he steps back, and is knocked over the parapet.
Narrator: The ogre's head hits the lower wall with a sickening crunch.
GM: ...
Ayake: ((Shuriken damage should have been [2d6+5] => [3,1,5] = (9) tbb(5) ))
GM: I'm willing to take it on faith that you guys can kill 7 goblins that have a hard time damaging you.
Mrugnak: So.
Mrugnak: In other words.
Ayake: ((Which is a LOT less.))
Mrugnak: You didn't blow through the ogre.
GM: Ah, it was funny.
GM: Okay, I'll play nice.
** Mrugnak gives Ayake the stink eye. **
GM: Actually, he did, but it bounced off your armor.
Mrugnak: No no.
Mrugnak: Well, whatever.
Mrugnak: He's still getting the stink eye.
GM: Ogre provided effectively 8 points of DR (after mods).
** Ayake gives a helpless shrug. "They're softer on the inside than I thought." **
GM: Anyway. Clean up! Damage in clearing out the last 7 goblin sentries!
GM: Ayake [1d6-3] => [2,-3] = (-1)
GM: Berkun [1d6-3] => [3,-3] = (0)
GM: Connell [1d6-3] => [2,-3] = (-1)
GM: Mrugnak [1d6-3] => [3,-3] = (0)
GM: Richard [1d6-3] => [2,-3] = (-1)
GM: ... yeah, that actually wasn't suprising.
Richard: (( we win! ))
GM: It takes you all [(7d6)/5+2d6] => [4.2,6,2] = (12.2) seconds
Ayake: ((That was epic and awesome. For the record.))
GM: To reorganize yourselves, run down the stairs, find the goblins, and smack them mercilessly.
GM: Consider themselves smacked.
Ayake: Our other goal was the destruction of the gate and then the fading into the nearby wilderness.
Mrugnak: I think that was part of getting in, though?
Mrugnak: If we got in without breaking it, do we still need to break it?
GM: 35 seconds after the first goblin sentry spotted Richard, you have taken the gate complex.
Richard: can we open the big doors for Berkun?
GM: Sure!
Connell: We should open it, so they're busy expecting an army while we slink off into the wilderness.
Ayake: We should *take it off his hinges*.
Richard: how much wilderness is on this side?
Ayake: *his/its
GM: Mrugnak, roll ST at -1 for every 3 seconds you want to shave off the 1 minute it normally takes to open the gates.
Ayake: ...what does a gate door weigh?
GM: There's portcullis and crap.
GM: Two layers of doors, a portcullis to crank... you know.
Ayake: Right.
Mrugnak: ST (20) [3d6.skill(20,-5+1)] => [5,6,1] = 12 vs (16) or less Success! by 4 Blessed
Ayake: I just do, like, multiple dozens of knockback damage. >.>
GM: What are people doing while Mrugnak opens the gate?
Mrugnak: 15 seconds shaved!
Richard: I let both flight and haste drop
Ayake: I meditate.
** Connell peering around looking for trouble. **
Connell: Watching. WATCHING for trouble.
GM: Connell, make Perception -6 rolls.
Richard: Reshape yelling, big gestures, extra time, -4 FP [3d6.skill(19,+4-11)] => [5,5,6] = 16 vs (12) or less Failure! by 4
GM: Err, Vision if it matters for Wooden Tigers.
Mrugnak: I go take medication, one sec.
GM: Richard - what?
Richard: bah
Richard: Reshape yelling, big gestures, extra time, -3 FP [3d6.skill(19,+4-8)] => [4,4,1] = 9 vs (15) or less Success! by 6
GM: Also, you can't take more than 9 points in penalties.
GM: WHAT THE HELL IS RESHAPE.
Richard: spell
GM: NO JOKE.
Ayake: It's a spell. Note that a door that big would be SM+3 or +4 for *3 or *4 cost. I don't think you have the FP for that.
GM: WHAT DOES IT DO AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH IT.
GM: WHAT'S THE TARGET, ETC.
Richard: lets me mold stuff like clay, like the hinges
GM: I DON'T READ MINDS>
Connell: Perception: [3d6.skill(16,-6)] => [4,3,5] = 12 vs (10) or less Failure! by 2 Night Vision 5, if that matters.
GM: BUT I DO GET ANNOYED.
Richard: target is me
Richard: M117
GM: You're reshaping yourself? Please back up and explain BEFORE spamming dice.
Richard: I'm casting reshape which lets me mold whatever I touch like clay for 1 min
Richard: I can't do anything until it is cast
GM: Ah.
GM: Thank you!
GM: Page reference?
Richard: Magic 117
Richard: should let me destroy the gate+portcullis after it's open nicely
GM: Agreed. Though ripping through 1' of clay with your bare hands is *not* going to be effortless. The portcullis is a lot easier, of course.
Richard: yah, I will go after the hingers and then the crosstimbers for the gate
Richard: I will drink some paut while the gate is opening
GM: Okay. You spend some time destroying their defensive works.
GM: The gates will be relatively repairable, but the portcullis is fairly ruined.
GM: Richard is breaking stuff for 2-3 minutes.
Ayake: I'm good with that! We need to get out of here.
GM: Connell is staring down the way.
GM: Mrugnak is opening the gates.
GM: Berkun is slitting goblin and ogre throats.
GM: And Ayake is meditating? For what.
Ayake: It's what he does when he has spare time.
Ayake: I can do Breath Control!
Richard: recovering FP?
GM: Okay. Works for me.
GM: The gates are destroyed.
Ayake: But that really only matters if we're here for two minutes.
Ayake: Are we here for two minutes?
GM: Yes.
Ayake: Breath Control: [3d6.skill(14,+1)] => [2,1,3] = 6 vs (15) or less Success! by 9
GM: It takes at least 2 minutes for Richard to thoroughly destroy the gates.
Ayake: Yay, 1 FP.
GM: You have destroyed the gates.
GM: What now?
Ayake: Off into the valley to hide.
Connell: Into the wilderness!
Richard: how far is the keep?
GM: What's your Cartography skill?
Richard: 14
Mrugnak: (( yay! ))
Connell: Unless it defaults to Singing, not good.
Mrugnak: (( Berkun might be good at it. ))
Richard: navigation is the same
GM: It looks like it's about a mile and a half away.
GM: Hard to say in the darkness.
Richard: what is the plant life like in the valley near us, forest, plains, tilled farmland?
GM: Slopes and terraced farms of scraggly plants.
GM: There doesn't appear to be much forest in the valley, that you can see.
Mrugnak: Sad plants in the dark.
Richard: man, we're gonna stick out
Mrugnak: ...
Mrugnak: Have you LOOKED at me lately?
Connell: That's why we brought Mrugnak. He sticks out so that the rest of us look local.
Richard: "We sure we want to go on, no way to hide Mrugnak at all and gobbos see in the dark"
Mrugnak: (( bit late now for that, doncha think? ))
GM: For what it's worth, Mrugnak is at less than 1/3 HP and Connell is at much less than 1/3 FP.
Ayake: "We need to find a place to rest, at least for a short while."
Mrugnak: (( afk couging epic ))
Richard: (( ((we could run away and come back later with actual stealth)) ))
Richard: can we see any credible hiding places?
GM: Sure. There's all kinds of little villages and mines on the valley slopes, plus a big keep in the center of the valley.
GM: Behind you, there's a treeline and scrubs about 100 yards away.
Ayake: "Let's head for one of those villages."
Richard: "shouldn't we try for someplace with no goblins?"
Ayake: "We're in a valley full of goblins. I don't think we're likely to find someplace with no goblins."
Ayake: "We could go for a mine, but I rather expect that's *more* likely to have goblins and guards and traffic."
Richard: "we should at least try to hide by a wall or woodpile for a bit"
** Connell nods eagerly at Richard's suggestion. He's still a tiger. **
Ayake: "Then let's get moving."
** Richard looks for the 3rd nearest woodpile or wall/hedge **
GM: Uhm, what?
** Richard thinks any terrain features that would keep us hidden from the keep would be good too **
Mrugnak: (( and I'd immediately look behind the NEAREST ))
Mrugnak: (( so don't hide behind that :D ))
Ayake: I think he's looking for the third-nearest piece of at least marginal cover, on the theory that the nearest one is the first place they look.
Richard: yup
GM: Ah.
Mrugnak: (( We're only mostly crazy. ))
GM: The nearest village is at least a mile away to the west, and downslope quite a bit.
GM: To the east, the nearest village is farther away. There's a mineshaft, though, or at least the roads lead to a random hole in the valley slope.
Ayake: Nearest village it is. :P
GM: To the west.
whispering to Connell, You think you see dark shapes forming up at the foot of the keep and moving up the main road toward you. You can't really make out details, but they look large, but low to the ground - some kind of mass of quadrupeds.
GM: You start hobbling west.
Richard: is Mrugnak really at -8?
GM: Are you heading down the main road until a road branches off, or moving along the base of the wall, or moving along the top of the wall?
Mrugnak: Oh, I didn't' take the last blast
Mrugnak: hang on
GM: Oh, and there are stairs on the interior side of the wall every few hundred yards.
Mrugnak: fixed
Mrugnak: hobbling.
Mrugnak: not falling.
Richard: OK
GM: Connell, you have a whisper.
Richard: (( who is leading us? ))
GM: Are you guys sprinting, running, or walking?
Ayake: Moving as quickly as broken and tired PCs can move.
GM: You could sprint. Briefly.
Mrugnak: I will use one of my healing potions! The ones with no bottom!
Ayake: Which is probably to say that Berkun, Mrugnak, and Connell are moving as a group and that Ayake and Richard are doing guard duty.
** Mrugnak is only mostly stupid. **
Ayake: Also, I don't know whether Connell can drink Paut in tiger form.
Ayake: But that would really help.
Richard: I'm probably trying to cover our trail as best I can
GM: I don't see why not.
Mrugnak: I've got two minor everfull potions and one major.
GM: Mrugnak, amount healed?
Richard: I want to stay out of sight as much as I can
Mrugnak: Just first, am I the only one wounded?
Richard: I assume the wall is terrible for that
Richard: I am down 5
Connell: Even if Connell can drink Paut, it's currently part of him.
Mrugnak: Richard gets the use of a Minor Healing Potion!
GM: Mrugnak is the only person badly wounded.
GM: Berkun has minor hurts that he will ignore.
Ayake: Richard is carrying Paut.
** Connell headbutts Ayake in the knee, by way of getting his attention, and gestures down the road towards the keep. **
Richard: [1d6] => [4] = (4) healing
Mrugnak: I'll drink one Minor then! [1d6*3] => 12 yay 30 hps
** Ayake looks down the road in the direction Connell is gesturing. **
GM: Richard, what's your vision, acute vision, night vision, etc.?
Mrugnak: No longer hobbling!
Richard: 13
Richard: no mods
Richard: is connell down FP enough he is slow?
GM: You don't really see anything down by the keep.
GM: Connell has like 2 FP remaining unless people start pouring their Paut down his throat.
GM: So he's half-speed for sure.
Richard: I can loan him some paut to speed him up
GM: Okay. Sprinting, walking, or paced running? On the road, along the base of the wall, or along the top of the wall?
Ayake: Paced running along the base of the wall is probably safest.
** Richard pours some paut down connell's throat **
GM: Top of the wall gives you some cover with the parapets, but you'd be silhouetted by the light outside of the valley.
Richard: unless there are some wall, large tarraces in the farmland
GM: How many Paut potions?
Richard: I'll see what one does
Mrugnak: it does 4 FP
GM: He perks up and starts running noticeably faster.
Richard: yah, figured that would be over 1/3
Richard: all he gets for now then
GM: The terraces don't really provide cover from people downslope from you.
Ayake: I'm thinking the best we can do is probably 'base of the wall'.
Richard: how much scrub is near the wall and how tall are the crops?
Ayake: Goblins may be able to see in the dark, but that doesn't mean they see at a distance any better than we do, and at least with the wall they can only come at us from one side or down stairs.
GM: The scrub is sparse, weedy plants, maybe a few feet tall at most.
Richard: base of the wall may be well watched by people in towers along the wall, the terraces would help with that
GM: What's the plan?
Ayake: Along the base of the wall to the village, and then to the village.
Richard: OK
Ayake: If we get attacked down a stairway, we can do a good job of dealing with it quickly.
GM: Everyone can make Hearing checks at -8.
Richard: [3d6.skill(13,-8)] => [5,3,5] = 13 vs (5) or less Failure! by 8

Richard: if we see any crops of significant height we should go down to a terrace
Mrugnak: I'm considering Lucking that.
Ayake: It's probably luck-worthy.
Mrugnak: Luck!
GM: Okay, you run, paced, for a minute while Connell whimpers and looks down toward the keep.

Richard: "change form and tell us if it's really important"

Ayake: ((I've got Breath Control. I don't know if that's any help on this.))
GM: and Connell loses 1.
Mrugnak: HT or FP?
GM: Sorry, FP!
GM: Which slows down both Connell and Richard, I think.

Richard: so I don't
Mrugnak: By the way, if Mrugnak is your only source of lore about goblins, I'm going to die laughing.
Richard: what skills over that?
Mrugnak: And subject you to the babelfish version.
Ayake: Notable: Paut only restores FP lost to magic. If you were down 5 from running and at least 4 from casting, you're good, but if running was your only loss your SOL.
Ayake: Naturalist, Richard.
whispering to Mrugnak, As far as you know, goblins see with heat vision, not with lights, and really hot heat makes it hard for them to see.

GM: Actually, everyone is down their encumbrance for a 30 second combat.
Mrugnak: Woop
Ayake: 1+ enc, or enc?
GM: 1+enc.
Mrugnak: Hang on while I engage babelfish.
Richard: one more paut then
Mrugnak: (( wow. Google's too good at this. English -> Finnish -> Sweedish -> English gets me "Goblins see heat rather than light. Great heat can kill them!" ))
GM: After about 5 minutes, you all start to hear in the baying of wolves and see a mass of dark shapes moving up the main road.
Ayake: "Mass" - half a dozen? A dozen?
whispering to Connell, Back at the keep in the valley, you can barely see more goblinoids forming up in a mass, and starting up the road after the wolves.
Mrugnak: (( 50... 1000? ))
GM: Hard to say. Observation rolls at -5?
Ayake: I fail.
Connell: (( Eblebenty. I can turn into a bird - bye suckers! ))
GM: Penalty is for darkness, by the way.
Ayake: I'd like 'up to 20', 'up to 50', 'over 100'.

Mrugnak: (( again with the guy with poor communication skills being the information gatherers. ))
whispering to Mrugnak, 20-30 of the bastards, with riders on the back. They may be goblin wolfarchers.
Ayake: ((How disappointed will the wounded and tired PCs be if Ayake and Mrugnak go deal with this alone?))
Ayake: ((And by 'Ayake and Mrugnak' I mean 'Ayake and Berkun'.))
Connell: (( You're welcome to murder an entire army by yourselves. ))
Mrugnak: Eheheh.
Mrugnak: Mrugnak can stay and protect everyone!
Richard: (( you have a plan? ))
GM: Ahead of you, goblins are screaming and running from their village, some headed downslope and others running along the ridgeline toward a tower visible about another 500 yards past.
** Mrugnak squints. "Hey! Deys got dem bows too. An puppies! Lookit der puppies!" **
** Mrugnak frowns. "Dose some big puppies." **
Ayake: "Richard, Mrugnak, Connell - get to the village and get some cover. Berkun, you and I will hold them off."
Ayake: "It's going to be a running fight."
Richard: "we're not going to disappear, we should get out of the valley or prepare to fight them all in waves"
GM: Are you guys stopping to talk or running?
Richard: how far are we from the gate, puppies, village and nearest tower?
Ayake: Ayake has breath control, he can run and talk? >.>
Mrugnak: Well, Mrugnak was standing and pointing at the puppies.
Mrugnak: He can be induced to run again.
GM: Wolves are several hundred yards back. Village is 1-2 hundred yards ahead. Tower is 500 yards past that.
Ayake: I think the plan is for Richard, Mrugnak, and Connell to head for the village while Ayake and Berkun slow down and try to slow down the pursuing wolves.
Ayake: This is probably going to end with Mrugnak, Richard, and Connell fighting reinforcements from the tower in the village.
Ayake: And Berkun and Ayake fighting a lot of wolves.
Richard: I should help with the wolves probably
GM: Actions?
Ayake: Ayake stops running. "Berkun or Richard, whichever of you can fight longer."
Berkun: "I am fresh. Let the wizard... continue on."
Richard: "I can stop many of them in one blow, I will stay as well"
** Richard gets out more paut **
Ayake: "No, we need you helping to deal with whatever's in that village and coming from that tower."
Ayake: ((I'm MUCH more worried about the tower and village than the wolves.))
Richard: "OK, it's your necks"
** Richard runs on **
Mrugnak: "OK. You say Hi to der puppies."
** Mrugnak keeps pace with Richard and Connell, long legs making up quite a bit for general speed. **
** Ayake pulls out a Glow Vial and puts it around his neck. **

GM: The wolves turn and move flow around the bottom, opening the range again.
GM: bottom == body.
Ayake: They're actually backing off, or cutting past us towards the others?
GM: On the other side, you're pretty close to the village. The goblin villagers are fleeing.
** Ayake begins closing towards them at 4 y/sec, stealthy movement. **
GM: The wolves are pulling out of range and moving to the side. Some are splitting off toward the others, the rest are milling near you.
GM: Berkun chases them back with arrow shots, and they fall back to about 300 yards in both cases.
GM: So you'll catch up in a minute or two...
GM: Team Village!
Ayake: Yeah.
Connell: WE PILLAGE! - wait, wait no, sorry. No pillaging.
GM: You're in a village. There's a bunch of goblin hovels, lit by cooking fires.
Connell: Not even a little.
GM: What are you up to?
Richard: looking for a defensible position
GM: Also, there's a dozen or so wolves lurking back about 300 yards from you.
GM: Uhm.
GM: Well, there's a wall several hundred yards upslope.
Richard: all the hovels the same?
Richard: what are they made from?
Mrugnak: Mrugnak is following the little guys to make sure that he gets all of their trouble!
GM: No, they're very different, but they'll all made of cheap wood, mud, thatch, and brackets.
Mrugnak: And to make sure any goblins wot need smashing get smashed.
GM: Hold that thought, Mrugnak.
Mrugnak: If nobody else makes any decisions, Mrugnak looks for a goblin and chaaaarges it.
GM: Ayake - 30 yards away. Stealth check at -5.

GM: ...
GM: Okay, hold on.
GM: Richard and Connell, what are you doing?
Ayake: Yes, I can throw a flash bomb 30 yards.
GM: (wasn't doubting it)
Connell: I have no idea. We're in a goblin village. The goblins have run away. Now there are wargs coming?
Richard: I go for the nearest stair up the wall, cursing goblin building techniques
GM: No, they're holding put downslope, maybe moving a bit.
GM: Richard - that's about 300 yards away upslope.
Connell: Is Mrugnak still broken?
Mrugnak: Battered.
Mrugnak: 17/30
GM: Is Mrugnak charging the wolfarchers?
Mrugnak: At 300 yards away that's a bit much for charging.
Mrugnak: Nothing closer?
Mrugnak: Peons?
GM: They bailed as you approached.
Mrugnak: A goblin shaped rock?
Richard: heh
GM: Sure, you can break hovels and stuff.
** Mrugnak will wander around looking in hovels for goblins. **
Richard: is there any kind of cover good for crouching behind and then shooting over?
Mrugnak: Hovels!
Mrugnak: You're sort of short, but I'm sure you can manage.

Connell: (( 1FP -> 2 HP x3 = 6HP so 2FP heals 12. ))
Ayake: Can we assume that Connell would chant and wave his arms to save himself at least one FP? :P
Richard: I get sit behind something solid and recover strength
Connell: (( Yes, this is probably logical
Richard: preferably with a view of the wolves

GM: The middle bunch of goblins and wolves take shrapnel and blinding damage and are cut down instantly.
GM: (I don't think you can dodge shrapnel).
Ayake: (You can!)
GM: Errr. Shit.
Ayake: (Dodge and drop.)
GM: Yeah, they don't do that.
GM: The other bunch 2, 4, 5, 9 [3d6.skill(12)] => [1,4,1] = 6 vs (12) or less Success! by 6 [3d6.skill(12)] => [5,5,1] = 11 vs (12) or less Success! by 1 [3d6.skill(12)] => [2,2,2] = 6 vs (12) or less Success! by 6 [3d6.skill(12)] => [3,1,1] = 5 vs (12) or less Success! by 7
GM: are okay and charge forward!
GM: Now what?
Ayake: Crouching is free, or a step?
GM: Free, but it slows you. And you change at the start of your turn.
Ayake: I crouch and ready a rock.
Ayake: If I can't find a rock, I settle for a handful of dirt.
GM: Sure.
Goblin: 4 goblins loose arrows at you at once [3d6.skill(15,2-2-6+3)] => [2,2,3] = 7 vs (12) or less Success! by 5 Rcl 3
Ayake: Rock? Throwing Art. Shattershot. Archer 4's hex.
GM: You're hit twice by goblin arrows.
Ayake: Parry Missile Weapons: [3d6.skill(15,+1-2)] => [4,4,6] = 14 vs (14) or less Success! by 0
Ayake: Bah.
Ayake: Hit once.
GM: Damage is [1d6+1] => [4,1] = (5)
GM: Roll HT to avoid poison damage.
Ayake: DR is 3, so 4 imp, no major wound.
Ayake: Body Control: [3d6.skill(14,+1)] => [2,2,1] = 5 vs (15) or less Critical Success! by 10 [B556]
GM: Your turn, act at -4.
Ayake: Critsuccess, halve shock? >.>
Ayake: No? Toss a rock.
Ayake: And stand.
GM: No, you're immune to their poison, though.
Ayake: Tossing the rock at Wolfarcher 4's hex.
Ayake: Shattershot: [3d6.skill(17,+1-4)] => [2,6,4] = 12 vs (14) or less Success! by 2 Costs 1 ER.

GM: The rock explodes behind them, and they veer off, shouting in pain and surprise.
Ayake: I will totally settle for running them off.
GM: The other two draw sabers and accelerate.
GM: Your action?
Ayake: Step back and AoD(Parry). Do I have to declare which skill's parry?
GM: No.
Dire Wolf: Wolf 9 moves and attacks your flank [3d6.skill(9)] => [3,6,2] = 11 vs (9) or less Failure! by 2 while his rider swings at you [3d6.skill(14,-2)] => [2,4,1] = 7 vs (12) or less Success! by 5 DA-2/-1

Ayake: Parry at -2 flank, -1 dark, -1 deceptive?
GM: Right.
Ayake: Retreat and Judo Parry the sword swing [3d6.skill(14,+1+2+3-2-1-1)] => [1,2,4] = 7 vs (16) or less Success! by 9

GM: Your action?
Ayake: Step, turn, Project Blow, Conic Blast, Forceful Blow, and Penetrating Strike. Karate Punch.
Ayake: The cone's a 1-yard wide line that goes straight through both of them. It's ranged, so they can dodge and drop.
GM: Okay.
Ayake: Project Blow: [3d6.skill(17,+1-5)] => [1,6,3] = 10 vs (13) or less Success! by 3
Ayake: Conic Blast: [3d6.skill(17,+1-5)] => [5,6,1] = 12 vs (13) or less Success! by 1

Ayake: Damage: [1d6+1] => [2,1] = (3) AD2 Dbk
Ayake: Bah.
GM: Given they're moving at 25 miles/hour, they don't suddenly drop to the ground.
GM: But that hurt, so they pull out of there in a hurry.
Ayake: If they're running I'll let them run. Berkun might not.
GM: You've scattered the wolves nearest you into a disorganized mass.
GM: Berkun will take potshots at them, but at 300+ yards, he doesn't get many of them.
GM: You've driven them off (mostly). Now what.
Ayake: I'll start heading towards the village and wave for Berkun to do the same; I think that's about the best we can do.
GM: You guys can barely make out another mass of goblinoid foot soldiers moving up the road, and faintly hear trumpets near the keep. The wolfarchers are also blowing horns.
GM: Berkun follows you to the village.
GM: Everyone reunites at the village.
GM: A dozen or so wolf riders are hanging around your perimeter, at a long bowshot, and moving in 4-5 groups in random patterns.
GM: They saw that something happened to the other group and they're not taking as many chances.
GM: (long bowshot is 300+ yards).
Mrugnak: Mrugnak may periodically throw a rock at them. His throwing arm is good, but not a bow.
Ayake: ((Berkun can fire once a second and has infinite arrows. They want to be out of range.))
GM: Berkun can't actually hit if he fires 1/second.
Mrugnak: yes he can.
Richard: have I gotten 2mins yet?
GM: Okay, but barely.
GM: Richard: sure!
Mrugnak: About once a minute he'll crit :D
GM: He's not firing that fast because he'd like to have FP remaining in case you need to run.
Ayake: There is that resting thing.
GM: You guys can take as much time as you like resting here.
GM: Presumably.
Ayake: Also, Connell: Ayake has an arrow in him.
Mrugnak: ( Mrugnak rock chucking range: 70.0 yards)
GM: There's nobody that close, Mrugnak.
Mrugnak: Yep yep.
GM: How long are you guys resting here?
Mrugnak: Doing math for my own benefit.
Connell: How much of an arrow?
Ayake: 4 HP. Discounted Major Healing would fix it.
Richard: are they getting within 300 yards or staying out of it?
GM: Poison tipped goblin thing, sunk a couple of inches into flesh. Enough to penetrate the ribs, but barely.
Ayake: Ayake would prefer to rest for at least 10 minutes and at most an hour.
GM: Staying well past 300 yards.
** Connell de-arrows Ayake. (( [3d6.skill(17,+3-3)] => [1,2,1] = 4 vs (17) or less Critical Success! [B556] shout and wave, save some FP, yada yada. 1FP -> 4 HP )) **
Ayake: Okay!
** Connell spends no FP and spruces up Ayake something fierce. **
GM: Ayake feels better - and that doesn't count as a healing for Ayake today.
Richard: anyone else hurt?
Ayake: Niiice.
Mrugnak: Mrugnak technically slightly bruised, but really not worth thinking about.
Mrugnak: He's disease resistant.
GM: I have Connell down 6, and Berkun down 3.
Richard: not worth the penalty later
GM: Richard down 1 but I'm not sure why?
Mrugnak: He drank a healing potion
GM: So now what's the plan/action?
Richard: I got hit by arrows and then drank a pot
Mrugnak: didn't 100% heal him.
GM: Right!
Connell: Oh right, I did get slapped... I will fix myself also. 2FP -> 6HP [3d6.skill(17,+3-3)] => [2,6,3] = 11 vs (17) or less Success! by 6
Richard: I was going to heal you, but OK
GM: Connell's unhurt, but tired.
Ayake: How happy and well-rested does 10 minutes here make us?
Ayake: Not very.
Richard: I think we should move out
Richard: how long until the foot soldiers get here?
Connell: I think at this point I'm down by 3FP?
Ayake: I think we need at least a brief rest. Nothing's approaching too rapidly and we could use it.
Mrugnak: More goblins means more targets for Ayake's chi blasts and Richards fireballs to scatter into!
GM: Uhm... how much Paut did you drink on the run? I had 1-2 potions?
Ayake: I had 2.
Connell: 2
Richard: 3
GM: Connell's at 7 fatigue.
GM: taken and remaining, convenient.
Connell: Well, let's wait 14 minutes then.
Ayake: I like 14 minutes.
GM: Very well. 14 minutes pass.
GM: I'm willing to take Breath Control rolls on faith, Ayake.
Ayake: I appreciate that. :D
GM: Let's make it 15 minutes for the Fit guys, okay?
Mrugnak: TY
Richard: heh
Mrugnak: (( got that one quickly ))
Richard: 16 and I'll be full!
Ayake: How about we call it 20 minutes?
Ayake: For the benefit of Mrugnak and Berkun, who could actually really use it?
Mrugnak: So. We got 2 minutes while Ayake and Berkun chased wolf riders, and now somewhere between 16-20 extra minutes.
Richard: I'd like an ETA on the soldiers :)
Connell: Ok then. 20 minutes. We keep procrastinating.
Connell: (( Moooooooom I don't waaaaaana go to school. ))
** Mrugnak farts about building inuit style stone men. **
Richard: "if you're going to rearrange stuff, make use a bunker"
GM: There's about 30-40 goblinoids, along with some ogres, meeting up with wolfarchers after about 18 minutes.
GM: They're stopping, though, forming up, and waiting.
** Ayake points at the mass of troops. "Are we ready for that?" **
GM: You can still hear trumpets and horns from down in the valley, and some of the wolfarchers are riding back down to the keep.
Richard: is there a minus for first aid on yourself?
GM: No.
Mrugnak: "Dat ready fer us?"
Ayake: "That's the spirit, Mrugnak."
Richard: I'll do first aid on Mrugnak and myself
Richard: [3d6.skill(15,0)] => [1,2,2] = 5 vs (15) or less Critical Success! by 10 [B556]
GM: You're healed.
Richard: grats mrug
Richard: [3d6.skill(15,0)] => [5,1,1] = 7 vs (15) or less Success! by 8
GM: So is Mrugnak.
Ayake: I think the plan is to charge the goblin formation.
Richard: "If they stay in formation I can destroy them"
GM: While Richard is finishing up Mrugnak's wounds, you can see more goblinoids forming up behind the first bunch, with more ogres.
GM: (Richard takes about 5 minutes per first aid attempt).
Richard: "The ogres or other armored ones may shrug it off though"
** Mrugnak resets his HP and FP! **
Mrugnak: "Mrugnak don' like dem ogres."
Richard: (( I was done resting after 16, might have only got mrug if we go do stuff early, unless I can recover and first aid, don't think I can tho ))
Ayake: "Mrugnak, Berkun, and I can handle the Ogres."
Ayake: First Aid is a resting task, historically. It doesn't take a lot of sweat and effort.
Ayake: (By 'historically' I mean 'I'm pretty sure it's been ruled that way in the past for this game'.)
Richard: OK, then that didn't add any time
GM: Really?
GM: Hm.
GM: Alright.
Ayake: I'm not *sure*, but I think Mordreona's done it while resting in the past.
Richard: lots of rust on my gurps fu
Ayake: I would have to do a search on the wiki for 'First Aid' to be sure.
GM: So then there's just the first 40 or so, with some others coming.
Richard: plus lots was 3rd with house rules
Richard: how far out did they stop?
Ayake: Notable: Scatter is 'margin of failure' in 'random direction'.
GM: with the wolfarchers, around 350+ yards.
Ayake: For a group of 40 or so? Explosive arrows scatter and destroy them at 300 yards.
Ayake: Unless you critfail or something.
GM: So.
GM: What's the plan?
Ayake: Assuming that's within max bow range.
Richard: within 390?
Ayake: I think the plan is for us to start advancing.
GM: They may be. It's hard to tell.
Ayake: And by 'us' I mean 'everyone but Richard'.
Ayake: And once we're about halfway, Richard starts advancing and dropping explosive arrows on their formation.
Richard: my max range is 390, I would really like to get within 300
Richard: before firing
GM: Okay, if that's the plan...
GM: we'll stop here tonight.
GM: This next fight might be a bit big.
Mrugnak: Eheh.
Mrugnak: Not like the last one, eh?
Richard: did anyone let us know they have infravision?
Richard: heh
GM: Mrugnak told you!
GM: I think.
Mrugnak: Mrugnak did attempt to communicate it yes.
